CT-05 Debate: George Logan’s Tricky Relationship with the Truth on Social Security Cuts

Logan’s Dubious Claims to “Support” Social Security Don’t Match His Record

George Logan seems to be under the impression that invoking the word “moderate” enough will somehow make it true.

In post-debate statements on Tuesday, George Logan’s spin on Social Security didn’t match his record.

Three weeks ago Logan officially endorsed Kevin McCarthy’s “Commitment to America” – a sweeping right-wing blueprint that would open the door to Social Security cutsLogan’s first vote in Congress would be to make McCarthy speaker of the House.

Logan also left out his fundraising event this past weekend with Rep. Lloyd Smucker, the leader of new GOP efforts to use the debt-limit deadline to extract cuts to programs like Social Security and Medicare – effectively holding the national economy at gunpoint in order to gut benefits for seniors.

DCCC spokesperson Ian Clarke:
“Anyone who watches this race for two seconds sees through the ‘moderate’ charade George Logan likes to trot out. The facts are clear: Logan has eagerly embraced the ideologues and extremists running the GOP throughout this campaign. Getting him elected is a key part of their plan to secure a majority that can railroad crippling cuts to benefits through Congress.”
