Record Numbers of Women To Serve In Congress

Women Lead Just over a decade ago only 33 Democratic women served in the House of Representatives.

Now, after this historic election, there will be at least 57 Democratic women sworn in as members of the House of Representatives with Speaker Pelosi presiding as the highest ranking woman official in our nation's history.

Congratulations to our newly-elected Democratic women members of Congress:

  • Ann Kirkpatrick (AZ-01)
  • Betsy Markey (CO-04)
  • Suzanne Kosmas (FL-24)
  • Debbie Halvorson (IL-11)
  • Chellie Pingree (ME-01)
  • Dina Titus (NV-03)
  • Marcia Fudge (OH-11)
  • Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-03)
One women candidate is in a race that remains too close to call: Mary Jo Kilroy (D-OH), who is seeking an open seat.

Our work is far from finished. If this trend is to continue, it will require not only financial support; but also a constant exchange of ideas and strong advocacy.

The DCCC's Women's LEAD program, headed up by Representative Allyson Schwartz, is designed to engage women in the democratic process and build a network of people around the country dedicated to electing more women to the House of Representatives.
