TV Stations in 3 States Pull Three Ads Over Factual Inaccuracies

Today, the shadowy right-wing groups spending unprecedented sums of money on behalf of Republican House challengers nationwide were dealt a serious blow as local television stations removed three of their ads from the airwaves.

Due to significant factual inaccuracies, local television stations in Hartford and Denver pulled down Karl Rove’s American Action Network ads targeting Representatives Chris Murphy and Ed Perlmutter, while a station in Boise removed a SuperPAC ad targeting Representative Walt Minnick.

The American Action Network, one of the biggest conservative third party groups, has seen some of its new House ads pulled by local television stations for factual inaccuracies.

In two districts -- one in Connecticut and another in Colorado -- local stations have pulled AAN ads. The group is spending millions on airing ads in competitive races, and any respite is welcome in Democratic camps. 

AAN is a conservative 501(c)4 group that does not have to disclose its donors. It is currently led by former Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) and GOP fundraiser Fred Malek.

The decisions by the stations also call into question the validity of the other ads AAN is airing. The group planned to run ads in 22 districts over the last two weeks of the campaign.

At least one Idaho TV station, KTVB-TV in Boise, has decided to pull the SuperPAC for America ad against Walt Minnick that contains a false claim.

“It is a non-candidate sponsored commercial, and we just reviewed the facts,” said Doug Armstrong, KTVB general manager. “It appears the commercial is factually incorrect regarding vote #46 on Jan 28th. We’ve decided to pull the commercial effective immediately.”
