Republican Tim Burns Pledges to Privatize Social Security to Secure Endorsement

Then, Burns Brings in Privatization Advocate Newt Gingrich to Reinforce His Commitment to the Risky Scheme

Republican millionaire Tim Burns was endorsed by the House Conservative Fund yesterday – a group that only supports candidates who endorse their agenda including privatizing Social Security.  And though it’s not surprising that the out of touch millionaire supports a risky scheme to gamble Social Security benefits on Wall Street, this latest revelation reinforces what we already knew: Burns’ agenda is wrong for Western Pennsylvania.

In addition to endorsing the House Conservative Fund’s agenda to secure their support, Burns is also campaigning today with another privatization advocate, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.  When you couple these endorsements with all the other privatization advocates that are supporting Burns, there’s no doubt that Burns is committed to the risky scheme.

“Tim Burns’ support for a risky scheme to privatize Social Security would be devastating for seniors in Western Pennsylvania.  Only an out of touch millionaire like Tim Burns would want to gamble the Social Security benefits seniors earned on Wall Street,” said Shripal Shah, Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.   “The agenda that Tim Burns and his supporters are pushing is flat out wrong for Western Pennsylvania. His failure to grasp that only proves how out of touch he really is with what’s best for seniors in the district.”
