Representative Heller Votes Against Aid For 116,000 Northern Nevada Veterans

Our nation's veterans have put their lives on the line and most would agree that we owe them not only a debt of gratitude, but also the treatment and care they earned through their service.  Most, except for maybe Representative Dean Heller who actually voted against approximately $5.5 million in funding for improvements and upgrades to the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System.

"Representative Heller had the chance to do the right thing and honor the sacrifices of veterans in Northern Nevada.  Instead, on two separate occasions, Heller joined with his ‘Party of No' Republicans to deny funding for improvements to facilities that serve 116,000 veterans in the region," said Andy Stone, Western Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  "Failing to keep faith with those veterans who proudly served our nation is just plain wrong."

The VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System is headquartered in Reno with the Ioannis A. Lougaris VA Medical Center, which operates 56 hospital beds and 60 Transitional Care Unit beds.  VASNHCS also includes veteran outpatient clinics in Minden and Fallon, Nev., and Auburn, Calif.

Funding for various projects, including upgrades to elevators, sewer lines and flooring as well as heating, air conditioning and fire protection systems was included in the landmark economic recovery package that was recently signed into law.
