New CNN Poll Shows Millionaire Partydude Stewart Mills III Out of Touch on Tax Fairness

Yet another poll today concludes that Millionaire Partydude Stewart Mills is out of touch with middle class Minnesotans on economic issues. A new CNN poll shows that an overwhelming majority of Americans believe that the top 1 percent of households don’t pay their fair share in taxes.  That’s a stark contrast to Mills, who has said he finds it “personally offensive” when millionaires like himself are asked to pay their fair share.

“It’s clear why Stewart Mills III tries to deny his statement that he is ‘personally offended’ by the idea that the wealthy need to pay their fair share, because he’s out of touch with middle class Minnesotans,” said Brandon Lorenz of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “No matter how hard he tries, Mills can’t run away from the video evidence that he cares more about the ultra-wealthy than everyday families.”

BACKGROUND:

Mills Says it’s “personally offensive” to Claim the Rich are Undertaxed. In June 2013, Mills was personally offended at claim that the wealthy did not pay enough taxes. “What happen in the last couple elections, where you have folks saying that the wealthy are not paying their fair share that there are all these loopholes and they don’t pay any taxes and we have to make them pay more.  Well you know what… we’ve paid all of our taxes, we reinvest the money that we make into our business.  We provide jobs for people, we provide health insurance for people. We are part of this community and then beyond that we support community and civic endeavors.  We donate to charity, we help with events, we do a lot of things for this community, and to be singled out as a deadbeat, is personally offensive,” Mills said.  [Crow Wing County GOP 2nd Amendment Rally, 7/20/13]

More than Half Believe the Top 1% Pay too Little. In 2014, CNN reported that 55% of people surveyed in CNNMoney’s American Dream poll that “The top 1% of households pay too little in taxes.” [CNN, 6/11/14]
