John Katko Beelines to Washington to Get His Marching Orders from Far Right Wing Special Interests

Just days after getting handpicked in a closed process and receiving Tea Party Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle’s blessing on live radio, Republican nominee John Katko made a beeline for Washington, DC to get his marching orders from the far right wing special interests who are gearing up to bankroll his campaign. A top Washington lobbyist helped Katko make the rounds on Capitol Hill where he met with special interest groups and establishment leadership.

“John Katko just made a beeline for Washington, DC to get his marching orders from the far right wing special interests who are gearing up to bankroll his campaign,” said Marc Brumer of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “John Katko turned to one of Washington’s top lobbyists to help him make the rounds on Capitol Hill, where he met with the far right wing establishment’s top brass. Central New Yorkers won't be fooled again by another Tea Party ideologue like Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle who will say anything in the district to get elected only to then turn around and crusade in Washington for the radical special interests.”

BACKGROUND:

Katko Traveled to Washington, DC for Meetings with Special Interest Groups and Republican Establishment. “The former federal prosecutor visited Washington on Wednesday and Thursday for a series of meetings with GOP leaders. Former Rep. James Walsh, a Republican who held the Syracuse-based House seat for 20 years, served as Katko's guide on Capitol Hill. Walsh introduced Katko to elected officials at a bipartisan Irish Lobby Day event. Katko also met with senior staff at the National Republican Congressional Committee, the campaign arm of House Republicans […]A campaign spokesman said Katko did not raise any money while in town, but he attended a series of meet-and-greets with influential Republicans and had policy briefings with a think-tank and healthcare association.” [Post-Standard, 3/17/14]

Katko was Escorted by Lawmaker Turned Lobbyist Who was Named a “Top Lobbyist” Last Year. “Former U.S. Rep. James Walsh, five years after leaving Congress, has transformed himself into one of Washington's top lobbyists, according to one Capitol Hill publication.” [Post-Standard, 11/09/13]

Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle “Planted the Seed” for John Katko’s Run for Congress.  John Katko appeared on former Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle’s radio show and when asked why he was running for Congress, Katko confirmed that had had a conversation with Buerkle “who planted the seed” to get him to run.
