John Boehner Reveals GOP Plan To Raise The Retirement Age And Kill Wall Street Reform – Does Boehner Loyalist Jim Renacci Agree?
Republican Jim Renacci (OH-16) has worked hard to emulate his GOP Idol, Fellow Ohioan John Boehner. Already Jim Renacci has had John Boehner appear at his fundraising events in Washington and Ohio. Does this mean that Jim Renacci agrees with Boehner’s plan to raise the retirement age to 70 and cut Social Security benefits for Ohio Seniors?
"Jim Renacci is desperate to achieve John Boehner’s approval, and will do anything to become one of the GOP’s Washington Insiders," said Gabby Adler, Midwestern Regional Press Secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "If John Boehner wants to raise the retirement age, then loyalist Jim Renacci must also be behind the plan to harm Ohio’s seniors."
BACKGROUND:
Republican Leader John Boehner revealed the GOP plan to raise the retirement age to 70 and cut Social Security:
Ensuring there's enough money to pay for the war will require reforming the country’s entitlement system, Boehner said. He said he'd favor increasing the Social Security retirement age to 70 for people who have at least 20 years until retirement, tying cost-of-living increases to the consumer price index rather than wage inflation and limiting payments to those who need them.
"We need to look at the American people and explain to them that we’re broke," Boehner said. "If you have substantial non-Social Security income while you’re retired, why are we paying you at a time when we’re broke? We just need to be honest with people." [The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, 6/29/10]
