DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen’s Statement on the Primary Election Results in Michigan’s 13th Congre
DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on the results of the Democratic Primary in Michigan's 13th Congressional District:
"For more than 13 years, the people of Michigan's 13th District have been fortunate to have Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick fighting for their best interests in Congress.
"As a Member the powerful Appropriations Committee, Congresswoman Kilpatrick used the power of the purse to improve the lives of Michigan's working families. Her leadership in helping families hardest hit by the foreclosure crisis, promoting alternative fuels, investing in public transportation, and working to revitalize America’s automotive industry will serve as her proud legacy. As a former Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, she worked to level the playing field for minority-owned businesses, increase access to affordable health care and quality education, and ensure equality and social justice for all Americans.
"This was a tough and spirited primary process. I congratulate State Senator Hansen Clarke on his victory and look forward to helping him keep this seat Democratic this November."
