After Racking Up $9,400 In Charges, Webster Shows His True Colors as a Scandal-Plagued Tallahassee Politician

It’s official: Republican Dan Webster is nothing more than a scandal plagued career Tallahassee politician.

This afternoon the former State Senator was added to a long list of officials implicated in the Republican Party of Florida credit card scandal.  And while the State Party refrained from releasing details about charges Webster made before January of 2007, they did release records showing that Webster charged $9,400 on his State Party-issued credit card from 2007 to June of 2008.  In April it was reported that the scandal is under investigation by federal officials in the U.S. Attorney’s office in Tallahassee, the FBI, and the Internal Revenue Service.

"Make no mistake about it: Republican Dan Webster is nothing more than a scandal-plagued Tallahassee politician.  That record, while fitting for a career Tallahassee Republican politician, represents exactly what Central Floridians can’t afford more of right now," said Shripal Shah, Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

"With the FBI, IRS, and U.S. Attorney’s office in Tallahassee already investigating the Republican Party of Florida, Webster needs to come clean about his role in this scandal.  Until he does, particularly when it comes to credit card charges he made prior to January of 2007, he shouldn’t expect anyone to see him as anything other than the scandal-plagued career Tallahassee politician that he is."

The Orlando Sentinel reported that, “Since the RPOF is only releasing records during the Greer era from 2007 to the present, it was unclear how Webster used the card prior to January 2007.” [Orlando Sentinel, 5/7/10]
