About Sharen Swartz Neuhardt
Sharen Swartz Neuhardt is a life-long Ohioan who understands the values
that make our communities strong. Born in Dayton, Sharen is the
daughter of a city policeman, and the granddaughter of a firefighter.
Her mother, Naomi, raised Sharen and her three younger sisters and
worked as a clerk at Elder Beerman.
Sharen was the first on both
sides of her family to attend college. She worked her way through
Northwestern University and then went on to Georgetown University,
earning her law degree in 1976. Sharen returned to Dayton to practice
law and joined a local firm, Smith and Schnacke, which became Thompson
Hine in 1989. Sharen worked with local business leaders, and served as
general counsel to Lexis/Nexis – one of the Dayton area’s largest
employers.
In 1994, Sharen married Dave Neuhardt, and moved
with her two children to the historic Whitehall Farm, in Greene
County’s Miami Township. Sharen has been active in the Greene County
community. In 1999, the Neuhardts expanded the farm to more than 950
acres, and helped to establish the agricultural land trust that will
permanently protect Whitehall and other farms in the area from
development. Dave and Sharen remain actively involved in the Tecumseh Land Trust,
which works with local communities and farmers to preserve our
agricultural heritage, and to protect family farms and agricultural
land from development.
Sharen has two children. Ann, 25, is a
second year medical student at the University of Cincinnati College of
Medicine. Rob, 23, lives with Dave and Sharen at Whitehall farm, and
is currently working on his mother’s campaign.
