Oversight

Yesterday we heard this astounding admission:

“We Republicans have never quite reached the level of competent oversight that the Democrats developed over their 40 years that they controlled Congress,” said Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa)...

And yet today we hear this in Roll Call from Rep. Tancredo (R-CO6):

Asserting that televised Congressional hearings inspire some lawmakers to “political posturing,” Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) called Tuesday for a ban on live coverage of all oversight and investigations hearings.

And this isn’t the first time Tancredo has proposed innovative new ways to set back our democracy:

Last week, Tancredo called for an end to congressional race-based caucuses — a move that didn’t endear him to his minority colleagues.

Where’s he coming from on that?

“I think massive immigration into this country combined with the cult of multiculturalism is perhaps the most dangerous thing I can think of. Our ability to survive as a nation revolves around our understanding of who we are as a people.”

Meet his much more worthy opponent, Joanna Conti:

“Over the last several years, I have become deeply concerned about the direction our country is heading. Rather than taking actions that will strengthen our country over time, we have weakened our country by running up huge budget deficits, preemptively attacking Iraq without gaining the support of the world community, ignoring the needs of American working families, and destroying the environmental protections which we value so highly. Something must change.”
