DCCC Statement on House Republicans’ Rejection of Bipartisan Framework

DCCC Statement on House Republicans' Rejection of Bipartisan Framework

Rep. Steve Israel, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, issued the following statement about the House Republicans' rejection of a bipartisan Senate proposal that would prevent a national default and reopen the government.

“We have a middle ground. It was the solution negotiated by the Democratic and Republican leaders of the Senate. It's disappointing that House Republicans are rejecting that commonsense bipartisan agreement. Once again, they are willing to hurt the economy and middle class families to advance their political agenda. House Republicans are speeding a car to a cliff. The car has no brakes and only steers to the right. Someone in the House Republican caucus needs to grab the wheel, hit the brakes and stop Republicans from driving the middle class off a cliff.”
