Kerr and Bush, Sitting in a Tree

Rep. Thomas Reynolds of New York countered, ‘Democrats are going to claim whatever they want, but the reality is that it’s hogwash.’ ” Lexington Herald-Leader Now far be it from us to gloat, but as Republicans scramble to disassociate the party leadership from Kerr’s dismal performance, we thought it might be worth taking a walk down memory lane to revisit the failed romance between the GOP powers that be and their jilted, abandoned rubberstamp-to-be: December 16- Kerr announces …

Chandler Victory Speech

While the nation’s newspapers focused primarily on last night’s Wisconsin primary election, the political world in Washington, DC was abuzz regarding stunning defeat of Alice Forgy Kerr. The predictable spin was everywhere: “This has NOTHING to do with President Bush or national politics.” (Karl Rove Call Home)

At 8:08 PM tonight Milton Evans electrified the hundreds of people gathered at the National Guard armory when he introduced them to the new Member of Congress for Kentucky 06, Ben Chandler. Waves of applause and screams of approval engulfed Evans, a Korean War veteran and an animating spirit of the Chandler campaign. The large crowd that had gathered WAS Kentucky.  Men and women; young and old; black and white, yellow and brown; union workers, small business people and …

Latest Polls!

Kos points to the latest Survey USA poll showing Ben Chandler widening his lead over Kerr. Best of all, he is over 50%! (poll here) We are all exhausted, but are very fired up to win this race! I was out all day canvassing with the volunteers and you wouldn’t believe the energy these folks have - one of the guys from LSU decided to join a bunch of folks staying through tomorrow. We still aren’t quite sure how …

The polls open in little more than six hours.  The volunteers were just briefed for the last time, and have now (hopefully) gone to their respective homes and rooms; to sleep on beds, couches and probably even a few floors as we begin tomorrow VERY early.  Polls open here at 6 AM and remain open for twelve hours. As to the volunteers I admit that it is hard to put into words the gratitude and admiration that all …

Chandler Endorsed by Courier-Journal!

The Courier-Journal endorsed Ben Chandler today. Highlights include: The Republican candidate, state Sen. Alice Forgy Kerr, is widely viewed as a nice person who has made little impact since being sent to Frankfort in 1998. She stresses that as a member of the President’s party and of the GOP majority in the House, she could do more than her opponent for the district. She has benefited from Sen. Mitch McConnell’s effort to amass a vault of campaign money for …

3 Days Out - The News

One of the nice things about being here in Kentucky is that you only have a go a few feet to pick up a copy of the Lexington Herald-Leader.  Today’s edition brings news that an influential panel recommends that the VA Hospital serving central Kentucky veterans should remain open despite earlier plans to close the facility.  Ben Chandler has long fought to keep the hospital open, a position only recently adopted by Alice Forgy Kerr.  (You know, imitation and …
